History of the “Green Mexican” Cocktail

The “Green Mexican” (Green Mexican) is a popular shot that became well-known in bars across the CIS in the 2000s. Although its exact origin is unknown, it is believed that the recipe was created through bartenders’ experiments to develop a bright and eye-catching drink.

The cocktail gets its name from its vibrant green color, reminiscent of Mexico’s agave fields, as well as its main ingredient – tequila, the traditional Mexican spirit.

Classic Recipe

📌 Ingredients (for 1 shot, 50 ml):

  • 15 ml tequila (preferably silver – Blanco)
  • 15 ml banana liqueur
  • 15 ml lemon juice

📌 Preparation:

  1. Pour all ingredients into a shaker with ice.
  2. Shake well.
  3. Strain into a shot glass.
  4. Serve immediately and drink in one go.

Cocktail Variations

  • “Yellow Mexican” – peach liqueur replaces banana liqueur.
  • “Red Mexican” – strawberry liqueur is used.
  • “Blue Mexican” – banana liqueur is replaced with Blue Curaçao.

This shot is appreciated for its smooth, fruity taste, which softens the sharpness of tequila. 🍹🇲🇽
