The Zombie cocktail is a powerful tropical drink with a rich flavor, created in 1934 by Don Beach, a legendary bartender of tiki culture. It is made using several types of rum, fruit juices, and spices.
Ingredients:
- Light rum — 30 ml
- Dark rum — 30 ml
- Gold rum (or spiced rum) — 30 ml
- Absinthe or anise liqueur — 5 ml
- Orange juice — 30 ml
- Pineapple juice — 30 ml
- Lime juice — 15 ml
- Grenadine — 10 ml
- Cinnamon syrup (optional) — 10 ml
- Angostura bitters — 2–3 dashes
- Ice — a few cubes
Instructions:
- Preparation: Fill a shaker with ice.
- Mixing: Add all the rums, absinthe, juices, grenadine, cinnamon syrup, and Angostura bitters into the shaker.
- Shaking: Shake the shaker vigorously for 15–20 seconds.
- Serving: Strain the drink into a tall glass (highball) or tiki mug filled with ice.
- Garnish: Garnish with a slice of pineapple, maraschino cherry, or a sprig of mint.
Important:
The Zombie cocktail is very strong, so it’s recommended to limit yourself to one per evening.
