Dry Martini Cocktail
The “Dry Martini” cocktail is a classic drink associated with elegance and sophistication. Its origins trace back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, gaining special popularity in Hollywood in the 1950s, where it became a favorite among movie characters and celebrities. It’s believed the cocktail first appeared in New York, where bartenders began experimenting with gin and vermouth. Over time, this cocktail became a symbol of sophistication and was immortalized in pop culture by James Bond, who famously ordered it “shaken, not stirred” (though that’s a unique recipe).
Classic “Dry Martini” Cocktail Recipe
Ingredients:
- Gin — 60 ml
- Dry vermouth — 10 ml (you can adjust to taste, adding less vermouth for a very dry Martini)
- Ice
- Olive or lemon zest for garnish
Instructions:
- Chill a martini glass by placing it in the freezer for a few minutes or by adding ice.
- In a shaker or mixing glass, combine the gin and vermouth with ice.
- Stir the ingredients thoroughly (do not shake) to keep the cocktail clear.
- Strain into the chilled glass.
- Garnish with an olive on a cocktail stick or a twist of lemon zest, bending it slightly over the glass to release the oils.
This version has a pleasant, dry taste, and its strength can be adjusted by varying the amount of vermouth.
